Introduction to Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g

Oracle WebCenter Suite enables enterprise companies and organizations to improve their customer support with targeted websites, better application design, and the correct information at the right place, easy-to-access information, and easy-to-use information. Webcenter suite increases business throughput with intuitive portals and composite applications.

What is Oracle WebCenter?

Oracle WebCenter is a beneficial, effective, and modern components-rich platform for Website applications development, web portal development, content management, and user engagement for social business, delivering connectivity between people and information. It is built on the JSF (Java Server Faces) based oracle ADF (Application development framework). It has different tools to ease the rapid web applications site development, web portal development, and web content development.

What is Oracle WebCenter

Among all the various cloud computing solutions available today, Oracle WebCenter is perhaps one of the most well-known. In fact, a lot of the top enterprise companies use this product for managing their data. In addition to being a highly secure platform, it's extremely easy to deploy and maintain.

Accessibility features

Despite the name, Oracle WebCenter is more than just one product. It is a suite of three products designed to help connect people, processes, and information. Oracle also offers an array of services and tools to help integrate it with other enterprise applications. These services include Oracle JET, Oracle WebCenter Portal, and Oracle WebCenter Content. Combined, these products provide an all-encompassing business solution.

Oracle WebCenter Content can act as a central repository for digital assets. It also offers various features to assist in records management, retrieval of unstructured data, and tracking physical documents. In addition to the standard text and images, it supports video, audio, and various other file types.

Oracle WebCenter is also a platform for cloud computing. It can create a dynamic portal in a matter of hours. It also integrates with existing IT assets to provide a more comprehensive and secure user experience.

JDeveloper design-time extension

Integrated with the Oracle Application Development Framework, the JDeveloper design-time extension for Oracle WebCenter enables developers to use a visual and declarative approach to designing and implementing WebCenter applications. With pre-built Java content repository (JCR) data controls, developers can use an optimized user interface to build WebCenter applications that simplify front-end coding.

Oracle JDeveloper supports the entire software development lifecycle, from designing and developing user interfaces to maintenance and release. The Oracle Application Development Framework accelerates the implementation of service-oriented applications by simplifying the visual UI design and data binding.

With the WebCenter Portal extension, developers can build a customized WebCenter Portal application without migrating their settings. This extension includes the complete set of WebCenter capabilities. The extension also includes an intuitive user interface that allows developers to quickly create and deploy applications.

Composer components

Whether you want to add an icon, change the layout, add items, or change processes, Composer components in Oracle WebCenter Portal enable you to customize your portal. These components enable you to customize the entire page or specific areas.

Composer components in Oracle WebCenter Portal are part of the WebCenter Portal Framework. These components can be added at any point in the development life cycle.

Composer components in Oracle WebCenter Portal enable you to edit pages at runtime. This provides a rich, dynamic way to edit JSF application pages. The components provide the functionality of a JDeveloper resource string editor.

The Composer toolbar displays the edited page's title, the active resource, a status indicator toggle, a Save and Label button, and a Reset Page icon. Composer can also be used to link portlets with page parameters.

Mobile applications

Using Oracle WebCenter for mobile applications, users can access critical business documents anywhere. These files are stored in a secured, encrypted format.

Users can download files for offline access, share documents, and participate in workflows. In addition, the mobile application allows users to upload files and share them with other users. This ensures that mobile workers are up to date and stay informed.

Oracle WebCenter for mobile applications is available on the Google Play store. The app features a search box, which allows users to search for documents. The search box compares words entered with text in documents.

Oracle WebCenter for mobile applications also features a list of recently viewed items. You can also share documents with other users through email as attachments. The Android mobile app allows you to manage folders and files.

Document management system

Whether you're looking to manage your company's files or you are looking to digitize your paper-based assets, a document management system can help you streamline and simplify your business processes.

It provides a centralized location to store and access your files. It also allows you to connect to popular file systems and databases. It can help reduce human error and ensure that you have a single source of truth.

Oracle WebCenter Content provides a robust, scalable solution. It is the industry leader in Enterprise Content Management. It streamlines collaboration and publication across all channels and devices.

You can find a document by author, keyword, or department. It also offers an integrated digital assistant and supports a messaging channel. You can even create role-based portals and extranets.

Oracle WebCenter has four main products.

1- Oracle Webcenter Sites
2- Oracle WebCenter Portal
3- Oracle Webcenter Content

Oracle WebCenter Installation Types:

Here are two types of Oracle WebCenter Installation

1- Typical installation type

The typical installation type for Oracle WebCenter varies based on the installation option selected. If you choose the complete option, Oracle WebCenter Content and Imaging are installed on the same machine. However, many post-installation configuration tasks are unnecessary if you choose the Imaging option.

If you choose the custom installation option, you can select features you want to use and deselect disposition actions. To configure Oracle WebCenter Content, you must have certain privileges. For example, you must have at least read access to the JAVA_HOME environment variable. You also need a valid X server. You can use a different user name for the Oracle WebCenter Content application. However, if you are using a Microsoft Windows operating system, you must be logged in as a root user.

Oracle recommends that you not store configuration data in your Oracle home directory. Instead, you should establish a base directory on your system. This directory should contain Oracle home directories, product directories, and domain data. You should also set the LANG environment variable to UTF-8. This enables the operating system to process Unicode.

Before you start, configure your system to support Oracle WebCenter Content. For example, if you are running Windows, you must enable the Windows file system to use Unicode. You can do this by setting the LC_ALL environment variable to UTF-8. You should also create a symbolic link to the chmod command. You should also check the installation logs to determine if any problems occur during the installation process.

2- Custom installation type

Whether you are installing Oracle WebCenter Content on a standalone computer or a server, the Oracle WebCenter suite offers you the option of installing it in an advanced installation type. For this option, you can select a custom port and cluster configuration. You will also need to install the custom JDK to support Oracle WebCenter Content.

When you are ready to install Oracle WebCenter Content, the installer prompts you for a JRE location. You must use an absolute path, not a relative one. The installer will also require that you set the JAVA_HOME environment variable. If you do not, you will receive an error.

You also need to ensure that you are logged into the machine you want to install Oracle WebCenter Content. Alternatively, you can run the installation file from the CD-ROM. The installer also provides online help and support.

After installing Oracle WebCenter Content, you need to configure the applications. You can do this by using the Repository Configuration Utility. You will also need to select the installation and configuration directories. You can also specify the location of local updates. The installer will attempt to apply updates when it installs. However, some updates will require you to restart the installer.

Oracle WebCenter Content is installed in Oracle Home. The Oracle home directory is different than the Oracle standard home directory. This avoids confusion with other Oracle home directories.

REST APIs

Using REST APIs in Oracle WebCenter, you can build external applications that access Oracle Content Management server data. These services offer a natural and convenient alternative to SOAP-style Web services. You can access information from different sources, build forms, and capture visitor actions. Moreover, REST APIs allow you to gather as much data as server-side APIs.

REST APIs in Oracle WebCenter use hypermedia links to deliver information. Hypermedia links allow clients to navigate REST service pages without referencing the server URLs. You can use URI templates to maintain the opacity of the hypermedia URIs. This allows the client to avoid breaking when the server URLs change.

REST APIs in Oracle WebCenter provides mobile access and enable the client to view profile data. The client can also access discussion forums and use Ajax. You can also use JavaScript to enhance the user experience.

The Oracle WebCenter tutorial teaches you how to read, write, and delete messages on message boards. The message board URI is urn:oracle:WebCenter:messageBoard: message. You can access the message board through its corresponding link. You can also edit or delete public links.

REST APIs in Oracle WebCenter also provides access to folders and files. You can upload new revisions to files and share folders and files with other users. You can also define access roles and expiration dates for folders and files.

REST APIs in Oracle WebCenter also provide access to the WebCenter Resource Index, a set of top-level URI entry points. The Resource Index provides an overview of the services in your repository.

Developing rich, interactive client-side applications

Developing rich, interactive client-side applications is made possible by the combination of Oracle WebCenter and the Oracle WebCenter Portal Framework. These frameworks allow you to build applications that integrate with a wide range of existing applications and services. These include ERP, BI, and content management systems. The frameworks also allow you to build transactional web applications, social networking sites, and enterprise portals.

The Oracle WebCenter suite includes an integrated development environment (IDE) for creating composite Java EE applications. In addition to the standard Java EE components, Oracle ADF (Advanced Dynamic Framework) provides a set of over 100 rich components. These include Ajax (dynamic HTML combined with asynchronous JavaScript) functionality. You can also embed JSF fragments directly into your applications.

You can also leverage the Oracle WebCenter Portal Framework to build portal web applications. This framework provides navigation models, page hierarchies, and other components that make building and maintaining custom portal web applications more accessible.

You can also build responsive applications with the Oracle WebCenter Sites APIs. These APIs are especially helpful for building highly interactive websites.

Oracle WebCenter Content is a content management system that allows you to upload, organize, and secure digital assets. It also offers sophisticated search features and a user-friendly interface. It can be accessed through multiple devices and browsers. It can also be used to control access to authorized users. You can upload documents using a standard Windows Explorer or the drag-and-drop functionality of the Oracle WebCenter Content Desktop.

Oracle JDeveloper

You can create and maintain your Java applications using Oracle JDeveloper without writing any code. It is an integrated development environment (IDE) that is free. It includes Jersey, a Java EE 6 JAX-RS REST Reference Implementation, and the HTTP Analyzer. It also offers a range of learning tools and a wizard for creating RESTful services.

The IDE allows you to organize your work in projects. When you select a project, you can view the objects and methods inside. It also shows you warnings and informational messages. The IDE editor has rich features that save you time. It fixes typos and helps you navigate through code.

You need an Oracle database connection and an Entity Object to create an ADF application. You will also need to configure the ADF Table component. This component must have a page definition file and a Commit action binding. Opening the ADF Table component in an Excel workbook is also advisable.

JDeveloper is a free integrated development environment that offers a wide range of features. It allows you to organize your work in projects and easily navigate through code. It offers various learning options, which you can use to help you learn how to use the IDE.

When you first start the application, you must select a role. This role will determine how you use the IDE. You can select a Database Developer, Customization Developer, or Studio Developer.
